This text was penned mostly through the tearful drunken gaze of a pretty thouroughly disgusted and ashamed white aussie, watching the prime minister denounce, as the play of mere drunken hooligans, a frightening social problem of national proportions and reject claims concerning the presence of racism and predjudiced sentiment in mainstream Australia. It has struck me as pretty fucking appalling that the presence of neo-nazi terrorists operating in this country is not reported in the mainstream media press, anywhere (maybe thats why Howard sticks by his stupid denials, he's only got Murdoch to turn to for info). Whats more frightening is the constant attention given to arabs and muslims (apparently Australia has decided the two words are one and the same) even when they are little more than suspects or informants in ongoing investigations. I can vouch for the presence of violent and predjudiced race-gangs in Australia because i experienced it in numerous ways growing up in outback NSW. I'm not saying that this sort of violence isn't perpetrated by other groups in oz (racist, religious, hooliganist, etc), but the non-white groups already get all the media attention. We need to realise that in many cases, the governmental, religious and information authorities in this country are actively contributing to hatred, fear and violence in our communities. If you want proof then all you have to do is look at the government solution to racial violence. i.e - more white cops (themselves little more than intruments of violence) on the beat. Is this what we need? The government solution is, of course, entirely predictable. Deny all involvement, disregard the victims, demonise and enemy and buy some bigger guns. A few more kids every year wont make it through high school but ASIO wont have to hold a cake stall to buy more surveillance equipment. Australians are moving into a time where they can enjoy (with their apparently valuable citizenship) about as much legal protection of their civil liberties as a citizen of nazi germany. If you dont believe me, check out the legislation and the resulting tides of criticism for yourselves. You no longer have any real rights whatsoever concerning (for example) privacy, freedom of expression (political or public) even imprisionment and arrest and where you do have a foothold, the governmental authorities have three vultures circling overhead carrying jet fuel. It's obvious, it seems, that im at least a little blind, deaf and dumb. Cause i'm not seeing any useful action on the part of the howard government to address the problems that are caused by deep seated racist and culturally insular sentiments that have flourished for too long in our communities.
The aboriginal peoples of australia are still getting a raw deal too, in fact, i cant help but notice that a lot of white, brown and yellow Aussies view still them as a special kind of outsider. So to those (some of my friends included) who wont stand up (with their mouths or their hands or their fists) for an end to the disgusting treatment of blacks by the pigs and the government and the farmers and the rednecks and the city folk and the public servants and the multinational corporations, i say "go home ya moron! terra nullius was never valid, a slightly bigger social security payment doesnt make you a spoiled brat (especially when you're getting the raw end of the deal via discrimination and multi-generational poverty and abuse), and having a deed to a piece of land doesnt make it your piece of land! Howard should have been impeached for refusing to apologise for the stolen generation, and he should have his fucking head cut off for refusing to apologise for programs of attempted genoicide. If he didnt want to represent the goverment of Australia, with all its past actions included, he shouldnt have worked so hard to become the fucking president. Not sure if he's ever encountered any, but according to democratic theory, he's supposed to be funtioning as a representative, not a monarch (or a representative for a monarch).
Maybe better solutions, than police states, fear, curfews, surveillance and stupid denials, would involve some kind of open discussion and debate, a cessation of the racist scapegoating daily practiced by our government and media, the appointment of some non-white authorities? i dunno, we gotta start somewhere though, cause Howard is wrong. Racism and predjudice are alive and well in Australia, and as far as i can see, more white pigs with more white power sure ain't gonna change that in the near future.
So with a hostile government of busy white men who dont have time for any of us, and forms of non-violent public protest beginning to take illegal status in oz, the task of creating solutions where violent confrontation is avoided becomes increasingly difficult. So take care out there people, and dont worry too much, one day time will stop and the machine will grind to a halt, the factories will close forever and everything will be free, the pigs will be fucked and rich will be eaten!
