Beliefs are good for you
(Extracted from http://wiki.mindcloud.org/wiki/Beliefs_are_good_for_you ;-D)
A seemingly cyclic irony of belief can be observed. An implicit attitude of the 'science' worldview insists that any belief held without question leads exclusively and inevitably to negative effects. You could say that this forms one of the prime assumptions of the scientific worldview. The irony of this lies in the fact that it is itself an unexamined belief. Far from being liberated from belief, unwavering adhesion to this line has lead to sweeping changes to society and increased once again the diversity of human thought.
Points for elaboration
- Alice in wonderland - believing 12 impossible things before breakfast
- Beliefs make energy and impetus to sweeping life changes, shifting of attitudes. New ideas, new ways of being, which is desperately needed today. Increases craze, which is much more important than being right all the time
- 'Science' says: you may only believe that which is correct. That means less diversity of thought, and diversity of thought leads to 'awesome' and more craze. It's cool to be right. Well fuck being right.
- New beliefs are the tried and tested way of clearing out old, [that word that means it no longer makes sense] beliefs
- Beliefs are great fun - why not spice up the daily grayly grind with an odd belief or two?
- Try these beliefs on to see how they feel. Suggested trial period: 6 months to a year:
- consciousness preceded and gave birth to matter
- everything electronic is aware, for example road-crossings 'beep... beep'
- holding your hands over a plant and thinking positively will cause that plant to grow more healthily and increase its 'wellbeing'
