General Discussion:Pope visits drug clinic in Brazil

(Extracted from http://wiki.mindcloud.org/wiki/Pope_visits_drug_clinic_in_Brazil ;-D)

The method's used at this religious drug rehab centre would be interesting I expect. I have a feeling that their methods are not dissimilar to the religious 12 stepping used for other rehab programmes, if not more religious given that the people on the farm would be somewhat isolated and fed a strict diet of religion.

This pope doesn't seem to be particularly progressive and seems to be cranking boring old orthodox Catholicism, like with his claims that Abstinence is still the BEST way to prevent AIDS in Africa.

For a moment I thought "hey that's great that Catholicism is dropping in brazil! that must mean more people are becoming better educated and are choosing not to follow it". But it's not that, it seems that Catholicism is loosing out to more aggressively marketed Protestantism, which isn't a good sign at all that people there are becoming more educated.

Heh, I remember my Earth Government Marketing department training (through my degree saying something that would be of use in this analysis:

I would wager that the Catholics even know that they're wrong, that's why they try so hard to either stop their flock researching the truth or try and plant doubt in science with straight faced lies about condoms' failure rates, to prevent them finding the truth. Which also brings me to rule the third:

They honestly think they're telling the noble lie here, that if they preach abstinence it will be medically safer than telling people to use condoms. I mean it may be true that not having sex is safer than protected sex but not by a very large margin, and in any case Catholic girls are the easiest girls to get into bed so that idea of preaching abstinence may be biting them in the arse.

I think the ultimate joke is that if there's any group of girls you want to be protected with then it's Catholic girls, especially Brazilian Catholic girls.

Found a relevent quote:

"The other thing they want to teach now is abstinence only sex education...
which is a little like "just hold it" potty-training" Roy Zimmerman
