Information retrieved from dreams

When people choose to recount their dreams to you, it's usually a painful and boring experience, unless they can summarise the drifting narrative into one or two short sentences, a memorable quote and the punchline.

However, it occasionally happens that there is some wonderful nugget of information in the dream that you wouldn't ordinarily think of. This could be a song, image, idea or any other imagining...something clear enough that you can reproduce it verbatim after you wake up. Where does this information come from? Your brain, obviously, doing whatever it's doing while you're asleep...but it is kind of like getting something for nothing, it's undiluted inspiration or whatever label you wish to attach to the phenomenon. Anyway, it's interesting, so go ahead and show everyone what your brain has cooked up while you slept!
