Characteristics
A partial list of the characteristics/stats that are modified by certain templates, actions and affiliations in Mindcloud. Typically on a range between 0 and 20, determined by a roll of 3D6.
Pleasance
- PLEASANCE - The ability of others to put up with your presence. A ranking of 10 is about normal - you'll fit right in with the most of humanity as harmlessly bland. Most Cludskulls are around the 5 mark, which is fairly unpleasant. Things like heavy drinking, not showering and engaging in Proletics usually temporarily decrease Pleasance, while spray-can deodorant, certain drugs and a fine hat will increase it.
Odour
- ODOUR - The smell you emit. A low odour is good, a high one is bad. Most Greks are around ten or a bit above. Most of us don't wash regularly enough and wear the clothes we wake up in for weeks on end until they disintegrate into tattered rags, further increasing our Odour stats. A high Odour score combined with a low Pleasance will make people flee before you so as not to have to talk to you.
Crom
- CROM - A kind of indicator of the ability of this person to handle horrors and be horrible. A high Crom score makes you an utter fiend, where low Crom indicates a certain fragility about the way you view the universe. Most people have about 1-5 Crom. Most MCers have more Crom than you can wave a stick at.
THACO
- THACO- Covered elsewhere, but basically a chance to hit targets - the lower the THACO the better. I guess most humans have a THACO of about 15. In internet terms, it is the chance a troll has of successfully inflicting damage or generating drama or LOLs on any given target.
Smug
- SMUG- How smug the user is. 15 is about the norm (most people are insufferably smug). 5 to 15 is just about tolerable, anything less is a bit depressing to put up with really.
Neckbeard
- NECKBEARD- The length of the person's neckbeard. This is synonymous with nerdery, especially computer nerdery, but also applies to subjects such as history (especially military history), role playing games and the like. The implication is that the person with a neckbeard is so busy committing nerdery that they have no social skills or concept of personal hygiene. A low score in neckbeard indicates a solid lack of caring about any subject, where a full neckbeard of 20 indicates that you are functionally unable and uninteresting in doing anything much but the focus of your nerdery. Women typically start with 0 to 5 neckbeard, and men with 5 to 10. Most MC users are probably Neckbeards.
Gumb
- GUMB- Gumb is a kind of waterproof silly-putty that Yaytards use to stop reality from getting in through the cracks of their happy, fun little worlds. There are lots of these cracks, so Yaytards more or less exude Gumb constantly and leave the shit lying around. The higher the Gumb store, the more likely you are to excrete Gumb and be enthralled by your Gumb and the Gumb of others. If the score is low, then you ignore Gumb for thinking and movement purposes but take a huge amount of Annoyance Based Damage when you see it or try to walk through it. In addition, people with a high Gumb score take terrible damage from Reality-based sources but have good protection against actually being hit by reality, whereas people with low Gumb have no protection but take correspondingly less damage. Most people have a Gumb around 15.
FARK
- FARK- The ability to find and deploy shocking, stupid or amusing internerd sleaze/crom on demand (but not entirely the ability to cope with it: see Crom). Most people have a very low FARK score - they don't know where to begin. A FARK of 20 means that you have journeyed to the far reaches of the Internerd and plumbed the depths of human depravity and come back the the surface bearing trade goods and wondrous tales.
HITCS
- HITCS (HUDDLED IN THE CORNER SCREAMING)- Basically internet hit points. When this reaches zero, the user typically posts a message on their favourite forums/wiki saying that they're Leaving The Internet Forever. Base HITCS is determined by doubling the Crom stat, adding half of the FARK stat and rolling a D6. HITCS will replenish slowly over time after rest and distance from the horrors that inflicted the damage. If a lot of damage is taken, HITCS can go into the negatives. As noted above, once it reaches zero, the person Leaves The Internet Forever, but will come back when they have reached a positive score again (the equivalent is a Wikibreak/I'm Quitting Wikipedia post). If the person is somehow reduced to -10 HITCS, they end up Huddling In The Corner Screaming and will probably never recover. /b/ on 4chan and Encyclopedia Dramatica can greatly damage HITCS for people with low Crom scores. Things happening In Real Life, such as getting a girlfriend or a job can greatly lower base HITCS, and events that cause emotional trauma (like a son declaring themselves to be an emo/furry/goth/aota can damage HITCS.
