Mindcloud:Policy
(Extracted from http://wiki.mindcloud.org/wiki/Policy ;-D)
Here is a summary of the rules and laws of Mindcloud Wiki. They have been designed to prevent the horrors of internet pettiness, and to avoid the creation of more rules (also known as 'rule creep').
- Don't post anything that is, or closely resembles, child pornography.
- Also, don't post anything that is likely to lead to a murder or murders.
- Don't post copyrighted material - see Mindcloud:Copyrights, just to avoid trouble...
- Refrain from mercilessly harassing other users.
- No cliquey Web 2.0 bullshit. This includes furries, wikipedians, youtubbers and the like. Prejudice aside, leave your stupid affiliations at the door - they're about as meaningless as anything else on the Internet anyhow.
- Don't post gratuitous advertising or any links to bank accounts. The only body entitled to do so is the Mindcloud Organisation, and only for the official business of the Mindcloud Organisation.
- Keep this in mind: the majority of content here is highly opinionated and ridiculously subjective. None of it should not be taken to reflect the views of any particular user or the Mindcloud Organisation.
The Mindcloud Wiki is a project of the Mindcloud Organisation. The general idea is to just 'let it do its own thing' - however, this will probably result in horrible cliquey behaviour and terrible wide-scale pettiness. Hence, in order to avoid e-Bickering, the Mindcloud Organisation has retained a small measure of dominion over the site...
- Mindcloud Organisation (MORG) personnel are the administrators of Mindcloud Wiki. This provides an obvious power structure to the wiki, avoiding horrid cliques like in Wikipedia.
- MORG personnel interpret and enforce the policies of this wiki, with some accountability (people know who to appeal to) so abuses of power should remain at a minimum. If an issue arises which the rules do not cover, MORG personnel are required to arbitrate, whether by logic or by a simple roll of a D20.
- The MORG is responsible for the site's upkeep - technical and financial.
- The MORG maintains the main page, and other valuable project pages.
- MORG personnel are obliged to employ sanity regarding important project pages, usually meaning "don't redirect the main page to pap, you jerk!"
- MORG personnel must be reachable by email.
- MORG personnel must treat user complaints and suggestions objectively.
- Wiki pages must not be deleted unless they conflict mightily with the rules, or if a copyright issue requires it.
- Personal profiteering is a shitty thing to do. MORG personnel will never ask you for your CD key.
- Sockpuppetry is officially considered to be 'a bit crass', and is discouraged.
- If an appeal is made against a ruling of MORG personnel, a review of the decision must take place. In order for the appeal to be denied, it must be found lacking by a two-thirds majority of MORG personnel. The review will take place immediately if possible, otherwise it will be discussed at the next meeting of the Organisation.
Edit Wars are a type of behaviour pattern on collaborative websites where pages are constantly reverted between two conflicting versions. This is sometimes due to complete disagreement, clashing egos or extreme pettiness. While this might be a problem for a site attempting to establish a fictitious 'Neutral Point of View,' here at Mindcloud Wiki there is no such aim. The following rules have been established in order to resolve edit wars without the need for firearms or scrubbing one person's view of things from existence:
- proper edit wars will lead to schisms in pages. The page will either be divided into two columns, each with one of the versions of the article. If the authors cannot implement this very civilised plan themselves, an administrator will have to do it.
- if arguments persist over things like 'who gets the left column', a disambiguation-type page should be made which points to all versions. If the parties involved can't manage to take this step, then administrators will do this, by whatever means necessary.
- In the case where the bickering is due to an attempt to converge towards the fictional idea of neutrality, Template:Objectivity will be applied visibly to the page:
OBJECTIVITY The author / authors of this article are vainly attempting to write something objective or unbiased. Ha! Have fun sitting on the fence with all your friends. |
- If it all becomes too ridiculous, the administrators will split the page as described above, then lock the page/s for a period of one week, allowing the authors to cool down and take stock of their lives.
The consequences of contravening the rules or otherwise being a living joke are detailed (completely) below. The immediacy of the consequences will depend on the immediacy of the problem (and remember that it is possible to appeal a decision by MORG personnel).
- Users who are dickheads will get their edits reverted or mocked and their user pages vandalised.
- For serious or repeated fuckheadedry, they get their account blocked and their user page terribly defaced and locked.
- If they sign up with a new account, they will be baleeted if they act up.
- If they keep doing that, we kick them in the IP
- This applies to administrators as well.
- You are considered to be a fuckhead if the mood of the whole project turns against you or if you act like a dick.
- You can redeem yourself only by undertaking a Great Work on behalf of Mindcloud.
