Organisation:University Clubs
Introduction to the Idea
I'm at uni again this year, and the horror will not reach the levels it did in 2006 for me. Thus I have the time and presence to begin my attempts to draw people into the Mindcloud fold at the Uni. I am thinkng of starting some manner of club, but so far I don't know exactly what the function of this club would be. I mean, there are the benefits of getting some exposure for the project, and maybe a bit of cash money - but we won't get useful people if the club is little more than a tax-hike or funding scheme.
So while I struggle to thrash out this idea, please assist me by putting some of your organic CPU time to this task! All ideas should be placed here or somewhere where we can all see them.
Ideas as to the purpose and activities of the thing
- Could just be used as a way of getting the idea out, the club would initially revolve around sitting in place, perhaps with some drinking, chilli and talking about things.
- I love the club idea. What i see in my mind is a sort of physical version of the mindcloud, ie people get together who just want to talk about random crazy shit. The wiki itself could be used to organise meetings, thrash out ideas for discussions, activities, presentations or party or gathering themes. So it would more like the website spawned and influenced the club rather than a club to try and promote and support the website. backwards thinking. --Aurgi 10:54, 27 January 2007 (PST)
- Social Experiment:Get Up and Go. A club could be very handy in organising this kind of thing. And in coming up with more. The aim could be to carve out a social space conducive to ideas in the same way the cloud is supposed to try and do that online. So what would such a space be like?
- Discuss how such a space might look, in contrast to a drunken party where everyone just does stuff. Most people at drunken parties don't come up with crazy-awesome ideas. Maybe that aim just needs to be stated. "We're going to meet at this time to come up with crazy ideas. (And to drink?)"
YES! these are fantastic ideas. I can see something of that type working well. Similar things were done in the Underverse days (although not with a great number of people) - we had all the necessary inspirations and computers nearby to record/create things.
I was thinking of broader organisational ideas. "Clubs" could sort of be these loosely affiliated knots of humans, generally doing crazy shit together and hopefully contributing to Mindcloud. Eventually we could put the call out for a mega-conglomomashing of all of these human clusters and further the insanity production.
- "Loosely affiliated knots of humans" - perfect. The point that a lot of people probably miss when creating an organisation is that they are not really in control of it. In reality, people just congregate spontaneously, somehow driven by the secret mechanics of the universe, when they have some collective task to achieve, or collective fun to have. So i think, the more loosely organised, the better chance we can give those secret mechanics to come into play. We just have to be excited enough to keep thinking of ways to bring the universe into action!
- Some overfiends were in the habit of wandering incredible distances across the urban landscape, stopping at each pub on the way. As exhausting as a 20km trek into the city could be, it was epic in four out five of the categories by which this sort of thing is judged. The thing would take several hours due to various side-movements and the making of offerings to the Rust God. This might be an acceptable mode of congregating for some.
