Synergy

Synergy is responsible for all atrocious corporate merchandise.

Synergy is the process by which more buzz is extracted from a word than was originally provided. This has been used to great effect in corporate circles, generating all kinds of terrible statements like infinite growth potential, values-centric management approach and the strange reduction of complex systems to just four simple 'dimensions' or 'resources'.

While the buzz of a word or phrase can be amplified in this manner, it is important to understand that this is always at the expense of meaning. For this reason, it is highly probable that Sydney doesn't actually exist (in fact, the name Sydney is just a corruption of the word synergy, the most synergistic word of all).

One way of modelling synergy is through Miller's empirical equation. Miller's empirical equation of synergy goes something like this:

B_{z_{out}} = B_{z_{in}} + 5\pi S_\infty

where

B_{z_{out}} is the amount of buzz extracted

B_{z_{in}} is the amount of buzz injected

S_\infty is the synergistic index of the word, relative the the synergistic properties of the word 'synergy'

Ivory Tower perspectives on Synergy(tm)

Sometime in April 2007 Dr Boy encountered a definition of Synergy taught in a university finance topic. This definition could potentially defy all that we knew of the material world. The definition was:

Synergy: 2 + 2 = 5

If you really believe hard enough the above statement will come true, a la 1984. In reality there was an economically rational explanation to go with it but this is much more hilarious without it.
