Talk:Breaking the mobile phone conspiracy

Ranting Thoughts

Strange things these mobile phones have become.

In the height of business in organising the AIESEC National Conference, I did indeed say to myself a few times "I don't know where I'd be without my mobile phone".

Logically though, there must have been some other way of me doing the things I needed to do, but without my mobile phone. I figure that my mobile had made me somewhat lazy, as I didn't need to be so organised to achieve the things I needed to. If I didn't have a mobile phone, I probably would have had to have planned things out sometime in advance, and prepared a place at home or in an AIESEC office with a landline phone and everything else I needed so that I could do the things I needed to do.

It seems possible though, that mobile phones can potentially be used to get things done in a quicker manner with less time spent on organisation and planning, allowing one more time to do "other things". What those "other things" may be though, I'm not sure. It's perhaps here that a mobile phone marketing company or special interest group would say something along the lines of "Mobile phones help you get things done quicker, so you can spend more time with your family...", but I'd be very wary of such bullshit statements, as they most likely are complete and utter bullshit.

I think that mobile phones can make you more productive in certain circumstances, and allow you to get more things done in a shorter period of time (things like make inquiries and communicate information and decisions quicker). But I think that most of the time they make you lazy and less concerned about how you manage your time, and EXTREMELY reliant on mobile phones as a tool for getting things done, with the reliance upon the mobile phone compounded by the fact that you now manage your time in a poorer fashion, and using the mobile phone is the only way you can get something done to meet a deadline.

So there's my 5 cents worth.

Both really. I spent $300 of credit on mine before conference and ran out on the first day of conf.
